JAMMU: Jammu Divisional Commissioner Dr Raghav Langer chaired a meeting of all deputy commissioners, the director of tourism and other officials of the tourism department on Monday to review tourism development projects and plans prepared to promote the tourism sector and identify new unexplored tourist sites in the districts of the Division.

The Deputy Commissioners made detailed PowerPoint presentations on the identified tourist places / destinations and future plans (short term, long term) prepared to explore new tourist attractions in their respective districts.

The CDs were also informed of the plan prepared for the start of activities in the identified areas, including trekking, camping, ecotourism, adventure tourism, etc.

The Div Com observed that the Division is blessed with abundant natural beauty and breathtaking scenery. He asked the agents of the tourism department to develop new tourist circuits across the division, to put special emphasis on adventure tourism, trekking activities, pilgrimage sites, water sports, ecotourism and other popular businesses.

The Div Com has asked DCs and the Tourism Department to develop all necessary tourist facilities at all identified sites to attract tourists to these less explored destinations.

Relevantly, the office of the lieutenant governor has asked DCs and the tourism department to prepare a comprehensive future plan of each district to promote the tourism sector in J&K by identifying new unexplored tourist sites to provide a unique experience for tourists and increase their attendance.

The Div Com asked DCs to resolve all issues of land identification / land transfer for the development of required infrastructure such as accommodation, toilets etc. in priority.

Div Com has also suggested that home stays can be promoted where accommodation facilities are not available, while trekking facilities can be planned in destinations where road connectivity is not available.

He led the tourism department to launch a special IEC campaign to promote the Jammu tourism circuit. He has also led the organization of festivals, events, activities in neighborhoods to popularize virgin tourist destinations. He also asked relevant departments to create digital advertisements that can be posted on social media platforms, including videos / photos of these tourist destinations.

He also asked the tourism department to highlight the division’s sights at Jammu airport, train station, bus station and other places so that tourists from outside can know. all these tourist sites. He also asked to put road signs on highways, internal roads.

During the meeting, it was decided to engage young people with appropriate training to guide tourists to tourist sites.

To give a boost to the local economy, the Div Com suggested that developing countries explore arrangements for setting up stalls to market local products along the roads leading to these tourist sites.

The Div Com tasked the director of tourism to delegate nodal agents in each district for the coordination with the DCs and the development of new tourist destinations.

The meeting was attended by Director of Tourism Jammu, Executive Director of Heritage Society Mubark Mandi, General Director of JKTDC, Joint Director of Tourism, Deputy Director of Tourism, Deputy Director of Planning and other relevant officers, while the Jammu Division Deputy Commissioners and other relevant officers attended the meeting via video conference.
