Imo and FTAN will collaborate in the development of tourism

A new dawn is looming for Imo tourism as the state government and the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) have agreed to collaborate in the development and promotion of its tourism sector. The move follows the recent inauguration of the Federation’s Southeast Zone Council, which is the national coordinating body for the country’s private sector tourism operators, held in Owerri, the state capital. of Imo.

Tourism Commissioner Mazi Uche Ohia, speaking at the inauguration, expressed the state government’s desire to engage with FTAN in the development of its tourism, as the state government is focusing on tourism as one of its axes of diversification of the state economy. “This administration swears that many of our tourist sites will be rebuilt, rehabilitated and reconditioned. We take stock of what we have and the next step is to get into total rehabilitation. To achieve this goal, this administration has hit on the idea of strategic partnerships.

One of the reasons I’m here today is that I believe FTAN is a federation that we will partner with. All the associations that we have met in the field, we assess them in terms of seriousness, in terms of viability, activities and commitment to the path of tourist development.

This is because with what we see in the economic sphere, it is that diversification has become the only way out. And when you talk about diversification, tourism is the second best option for all states in Nigeria, especially states that are fortunate enough to have tourist sites and visionary leaders to operate and operate these tourist sites. ” He said. , the partnership is going to be practical because the state government pays special attention to all its collaboration agreements. “Today I will tell the new leaders of FTAN that Imo State is ready to partner with you in all areas of tourism. Our partnership is not in theory, but in practice. We get our sleeves up and get on the pitch and get the job done. ” It was then that he expressed the state government’s willingness to welcome the federation whenever it is ready.

In his response, the President of FTAN, Nkereuwem Onung, expressed his joy and gratitude to the Commissioner for the warm welcome and the desire to partner with FTAN to develop the tourist assets of the state. He also praised the state government for its efforts to tackle insecurity in the state, as this discourages tourism.

He called on federal and state governments to pay more attention to tourism because it is the “fruits at hand” that could advance the government’s economic diversification agenda. “Now, for tourism to thrive in any location, three basic elements are needed. What we need is access, and Imo State has it. Another thing we need is the quality of the infrastructure.

In this security issue, we need to encourage the government and the private sector and all those involved in it so that Imo State continues to do well, ” Onung said. He further stated: “It is high time that we realized that the fruits at hand for developing the economy of the state and this country are tourism. It is high time that governments at different levels realized this.

That is why we always ask government and private sector institutions to do what they have to do. “This is why we are still surprised that despite the negative impact of COVID-19 on the ability of the state government to welcome the federation whenever it is ready.
