Officials in the city of Shanghai, China, have released a tourism development plan that sets out growth goals, key tasks and measures for a five-year period, from 2021 to 2025.
According to the plan, Shanghai will strive to achieve an annual tourism income of 700 billion yuan (about 108 billion US dollars) by 2025, more than double that of 2020, with the added value of its tourism industry accounting for about 6% of GDP , or 2.6 percentage points. higher than that of 2020.
“Shanghai not only aims to become a world famous tourist destination by 2025, but will also strive to become the first choice of city tourism, an open hub for international tourism, a gateway to the Asia region -Pacific attracting tourism investment and a metropolitan city displaying the latest digital developments, ”said Fang Shizhong, director of the municipal administration of culture and tourism.
Highlighting the city’s historical and cultural characteristics, the plan notes that Shanghai will dig deep into its urban tourism resources. It also seeks to stimulate tourism consumption, in particular that of premium, digital and entertainment services and products.
Shanghai is expected to become a hub of open international tourism by leveraging its Hongqiao and Pudong airports and its Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. It will also promote internationally renowned exhibitions, festivals and events that showcase Chinese culture and Shanghai characteristics, according to the plan.
