VNAT supports Hau Giang province in tourism development

On September 24, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh – The chairman of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT) chaired an online meeting with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hau Giang Province on tourism development.
According to the meeting report, Hau Giang province has a dense system of rivers and canals, as well as large fruit orchards, creating a green and peaceful space conducive to the development of ecotourism. The province is home to a number of historical and cultural relics, local festivals, traditional craft villages and a diverse culinary culture.
In 2019, Hau Giang attracted 486,800 tourist arrivals, including 24,340 international visitors; total tourism receipts reached over 171 billion dong. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the total number of tourists to the province in 2020 was only 228,900 arrivals, down 47% from 2019, international visitor arrivals down 75%; tourism receipts fall by 56%.
During the period 2015 – 2020, the province experienced an average annual growth of 4.67% in the number of visitors and 18.77% in tourism revenue.

Mr. Le Cong Khanh, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism Department proposed that VNAT support Hau Giang in promoting the value of relics associated with tourism development; support market research, tourism promotion, human resource training, construction of typical tourism products and consider choosing Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve from the list of potential national tourism areas.
The President affirmed that VNAT will accompany and always work closely with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hau Giang to implement the proposed content.
He also called on Hau Giang to prepare to restart tourism activities in the new situation, participating in the implementation of the tourism recovery and revival programs published by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
